The idea for the Artists in Schools program came from teachers who told us, "I would love to have working artists come into my classroom to teach my students or talk about their life in the arts." Here's how it works:
1. A teacher contacts us and requests a teaching artist.
2. We match the teacher with a teaching artist that meets their needs.
3. We handle scheduling, billing and payment.
4. After the session, we follow up with the teacher and teaching artist to make sure everyone had a great experience.
"My teacher was great and I'll be using him next year. He was very flexible and did an amazing job with even some of my really difficult kids." (Sunshine Morgan, Theatre teacher at Stony Point High School)
Would you like to participate in our Artists in Schools program? Whether you're a teacher or a teaching artist, we want to hear from you! Email us at info@penfoldtheatre.org or call 512.850.4849.
We love our student apprentices! They make what we do possible by filling important production roles like backstage crew, wardrobe assistant, light/sound board operator, assistant stage manager and assistant director. In return, apprentices have a chance to work alongside industry professionals on actual Penfold productions.
"I felt like I was welcomed into the family... The best part was getting to know everyone and working in many different capacities... it was such a great opportunity." (Alex Taylor, student apprentice for Three Days of Rain)
Want to be an apprentice? Opportunities vary from production to production. Contact Nathan Jerkins at njerkins@penfoldtheatre.org to learn more.
