Haley Smith
First annual fundraising party with music from the 20s and 30s.
Thursday, March 24, 2011
Get away for a magical evening. The grounds at Kindred Oaks provided a beautiful, central Texas backdrop against which to enjoy a mouthwatering meal while singers from Austin's vibrant theatre community delighted with selections by cherished composers like Cole Porter, Noel Coward and the Gershwin brothers.
Famous for melodies like "Funny Face," "I've Got Rhythm," "Anything Goes," "Begin The Beguine," and countless others, songwriters from the roaring 20s and sophisticated 30s have been enchanting audiences around the globe for nearly a century.
Our crooners for the evening included Robert Faires of the Austin Chronicle, Jarret Mallon of the recent national tour of "Hairspray", and familiar faces to the Penfold stage like Sarah Gay (John & Jen), Nathan Jerkins (Going with Jenny), Jill Leberknight (40 & Forward) and Haley Smith (I Love You Because).
The night also included a live and silent auction. Proceeds supported Penfold Theatre Company's 2011-12 season and its ongoing efforts to open a new performance venue in Round Rock.
