New Work Development

New Work Development

Penfold Theatre Company is dedicated to nurturing emerging theatre-makers. We pursue initiatives designed to support playwrights at various stages of their creative journey.

Readings

We host multiple readings of work in development. These readings involve a structured rehearsal process that is a collaboration between the playwright, director, and actors. Following the reading, we invite participants, including audience members and other artists, to discuss the work with the author.

Workshop Productions

A workshop is a form of theatrical performance, in which a play or musical is modestly staged without some aspects of a full production. This allows the playwright and director to finish the process of developing the work for premiere.

Commissioning New Plays

We are proud to commission new works from playwrights. Penfold teams the playwright with a director and actors to fully develop the playwright’s vision.
