About the Role

We are seeking a highly organized, collaborative, and passionate Arts Education professional to serve as the Education Manager for our recently introduced PreK–12 education program. This
leadership role requires 20 hours per week during the school year (approximately 3:30 PM – 7:30 PM, Monday through Thursday plus additional meetings and working hours) to oversee our
after-school Penfold Academy classes, and transitions to full-time hours from the end of May through August to manage our immersive summer camp programming.

During the school year, our after-school classes cover specific performing arts topics, such as Musical Theatre, Acting for the Camera, and Improv. In the summer, we host five 2-week
immersive camps (Monday–Friday) where students rehearse and mount age-appropriate versions of well-known plays and musicals, culminating in Saturday performances.

Compensation

• Salary: $33,328 annually (based on a $50,000 full-time equivalent rate, scaled for half-
  time school year and full-time summer hours).

Responsibilities

• Program Leadership & Artistic Direction

  • Course and Show Selection: Research and select engaging, age-appropriate course
    subjects and show titles for classes, summer camps, and other educational productions,
    workshops, and master classes.

  • Publisher Liaison: Serve as the primary contact with theatrical licensing houses (e.g.,
    MTI, Concord Theatricals, TRW) to secure performance rights, order scripts, and
    manage royalty payments for all educational shows.

  • Daily Operations: Lead the daily operations of the Penfold Academy after-school
    program and summer camps, ensuring all classes are consistent with Penfold Theatre Company’s
    standards of excellence.

  • Curriculum Development: Actively design and refine long-term, standards-aligned
    educational curriculums that meet specific learning objectives for students in grades 1-
    12.

• Staff Management & Operations

  • Hiring & Training: Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate Teaching Artists, camp
    counselors, and educational staff, including designers and crew members for education
    productions.

  • Event Facilitation: Serve as on-site operational support during program hours,
    facilitating student check-ins, coordinating staff, and managing the logistics of Saturday
    summer camp performances.

  • Problem Solving: Demonstrate initiative and high emotional intelligence to navigate and
    manage complex situations among students, parents, or staff.

• Administration, Strategy, & Outreach

  • Budgeting: Track educational expenses, reconcile program budgets, and participate in
    comprehensive education budgeting for the organization.

  • School & Community Outreach: Actively develop and maintain partnerships with local
    school districts, educators, and community organizations to promote Penfold Theatre Company’s
    educational offerings and coordinate group opportunities.

  • Communication: Present a calm, professional demeanor while serving as the primary
    point of contact for staff, parents, students, and the public.

  • Organizational Collaboration: Attend weekly staff meetings during the summer (and as
    possible during the school year) to ensure education programming aligns with the
    broader strategic goals and mainstage events of Penfold Theatre Company.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree/equivalent or higher in a performing arts discipline or in performing arts education.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in education or arts administration.
• Proven experience working with students in grades 1–12 in an educational or theatrical setting.
• Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and customer service expertise. Must possess strong administrative and management skills.
• Must be consistently available during the late afternoon/early evening (approximately 3:30 PM – 7:30 PM) during the school year, with full-time daytime and weekend availability (Saturdays) during the summer.
• Ability to pass a criminal history background check.
